Urban Solutions provides primary care for more than 100 HIV-positive patients each year. Most of our patients are African-American, financially distressed, and do not have health insurance or money to pay for health care. Without Urban Solutions, many of those patients would lack access to vital services that maintain their quality and length of life.
Urban Solutions is a valued provider of primary care for many reasons:
Anyone is welcome at Urban Solutions-regardless of their ability to pay. Each person who walks through Urban Solutions' doors has access to a team of experienced health educators and social workers to help them become eligible for Medical Assistance. We help patients with complicated paperwork and documentation requirements, and as a result, many of our patients are connected to vital healthcare for the first time in years.
There is no waiting list for services. Unlike many other primary care centers that provide HIV/AIDS care, at Urban Solutions, there is no waiting list for care. We do this by keeping appointment times open each afternoon for walk-ins. Our walk in hours for adults are Monday through Friday at 2 p.m. Our walk in hours for teens are Monday through Friday at 4 p.m. Each patient who comes in that day will see a doctor that afternoon.
We provide high-quality HIV/AIDS care. For example, Dr. Noble Jones, M.D., a licensed physician who specializes in internal medicine and has treated patients with HIV/AIDS in South Philadelphia for several years, is Medical Director of Health Associates, the primary care clinic for Urban Solutions clients. He received his M.D. from George Washington University and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Jones is a well-regarded expert in treating serious complications that may arise from HIV/AIDS. Because he also has admitting privileges at Graduate and Pennsylvania Hospitals, he can refer Urban Solutions patients there for acute care when they need it.
We provide confidential care. Through Urban Solutions' linkage to Health Associates, the primary care center located in the same building above Urban Solutions, patients who go to Urban Solutions seeking HIV/AIDS care are not labeled as HIV/AIDS patients. This is because they receive care at a primary care health center, not one specifically designed for HIV/AIDS patients. This set up ensures the confidentiality many patients seek when looking for HIV/AIDS care.
We have a compassionate, diverse staff committed to serving at-risk patients in an urban setting. Urban Solutions' staff of highly trained physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified HIV counselors and community education staff care about the community they serve. Compared to many other health centers, our staff turnover is extremely low. And at a time when new HIV/AIDS cases disproportionately impact African American and Latinos, our employees are as diverse as the patients they serve. In addition, we have Spanish-speaking staff to help patients for whom English is a second language.
